Male Fertility: Supporting Lifestyle Changes

It has been estimated that nearly one in seven couples are infertile: this means that, despite having sexually interacted frequently and unprotected sexual intercourse for a year or more, they could not conceive a child. At least half of these couples report that male infertility is a contributing factor to their fertility problems.

Several factors can cause male infertility, such as low testosterone levels, abnormally functioning sperm, or physical obstructions that hinder male sperm from being delivered to the uterus. It is also possible that illness or injury, chronic health problems, lifestyle choices and other factors may contribute to a male’s infertility.

Below we mention some lifestyle changes that support male fertility. Check them out…

Keep your weight in check:

In some studies, there has been a link between an increase in body mass index (BMI) and a drop in sperm count and sperm movement.

Maintain a healthy diet:

It is a good idea to take a lot of fruits and vegetables, which contain antioxidants and may improve the health of your sperm.

Manage stress:

The effects of stress can lead to an adverse effect on sperm production by decreasing sexual function and interfering with hormone production.

Get moving:

A moderate level of physical activity can lead to an increase in anti-oxidant enzyme levels in the blood, which can help protect sperm.

Quit smoking:

Cigarette smokers are more likely to have low sperm counts than those who don’t smoke. It is always a good idea to seek the help of your doctor if you smoke.

Limit alcohol consumption:

The consumption of too much alcohol can result in a decrease in testosterone production, impotence and sperm production. Please keep in mind that if you choose to drink, you should do so in moderation.

Keep an eye out for toxins:

It is well known that exposure to pesticides, lead, or other toxins can have a negative impact on the quantity and quality of sperm. In the case that you have to work with toxins, make sure you do so in a safe manner. Whenever you work with chemicals, it is a good idea to wear protective clothing, use protective equipment, such as safety goggles, and prevent the contact of chemicals with your skin.

A word from Hegde Fertility:

By adopting healthy lifestyle practices such as exercising regularly, and avoiding things that will harm fertility, a person can increase their chances of becoming pregnant and having a healthy baby. It is best to consult an infertility specialist if you haven’t gotten pregnant after a year of unprotected sex with your partner. If there is a problem with fertility, a fertility specialist can diagnose it and provide treatment so that you and your partner can become parents.
